Lucy Kate: A Happy Little Dog With A Sad Past

Lucy Kate has had a rough first year.

We originally met this preternaturally soft chi mix when she arrived in November with her sister, Juliet. Barely three months old and a little shy, she stayed with us for a month before she went home with a single woman who lived alone. She was lucky enough to have a stay-at-home dog Mom, so little Lucy Kate was never alone.

Tragedy struck in May when her person passed away unexpectedly and Lucy Kate was returned to HSSV. In those first few days back at HSSV we discovered this little girl could make a large amount of noise. And quickly she began to out smart us, realizing her yelping and crying would bring people rushing to her room. We got this clever chi on a schedule so visits and walks were something she could expect at certain times. The consistency calmed her down and she learned to enjoy her alone time, something she wasn't used to before her owner died.

If you walk by her room now, you can sometimes spot her wrestling with her blanket or chewing a toy. While she learned how to play independently this time around, she'd still rather be snuggled up on your lap. If you are looking for someone who will always dance with delight when you come home, spend some time with Lucy Kate. She's ready to make you her next happy ending.
