HSSV Cats Get into the Halloween Spirit

Happy Cat-o-ween!

Halloween may already be upon us, but that doesn't mean you don't have time to make your feline friend a part of the fun too!  Here are some awesome last-minute costume ideas modeled by our very own available cats and kittens.  Enjoy!

The Pumpkin:
A classic look.  Cap'N Crunch proves that white is the new black when it comes to Halloween cats.
"I look so good it's scary."

The Princess:
Ideal for the fuzzy princess in your life.  Maybelle wears her diva-ness well.
"Go ahead, take my photo.  I know I'm gorgeous."

The Egyptian:
A more sultry option.  Goldie is rocking this Cleopatra get-up.
"You peasants disgust me."

The Raven:
The perfect ensemble for the spookiest of holidays.  Goldie is such a good sport, she has become our very own cat-in-bird's-clothing.
"Okay, the peasant thing was a little out-of-bounds, I'm sorry.  Now please take this thing off my head."

The Fancy-Pants:
Slap on a bow-tie or a tulle skirt, and your cat will clean up good.  As far as formal wear goes, Foxy Cleo, Henry, and Killian are three of our best-dressed.

"We're too sexy for our shirts."

The Sassy Sailor:
By far, Giselle wins Halloween.  She's certainly the sassiest mustachioed sailor we've ever met.
"Are we done yet?  This is humiliating."

Not to be left out, HSSV buns Anaheim and Chewy rock some festive Halloween-wear.  Whether they like it or not.

"I guess if it means we get cilantro, we'll humor you humans."

Happy Halloween
from our fuzz-buckets to yours!

That Is NOT An Adopt Me Face: A Refresher Course.

Shortly before the big hullabaloo of Maddie's Day (and the 240 adoptions that weekend!) we sat the dogs down and gave them a good talking-to about the importance of Adopt-Me Face.  If you haven't noticed, we have the best dogs ever here so it's critical that we present them in such a way that you know you are in the presence of unmatched awesomeness. Hence Adopt-Me face. Adopt Me Face is just mastering that 'happy dog' look we all know and love. Like Myztee here:

Adore my fuzzy awesomeness.

Really unfortunate spelling of her name but a perfect Adopt Me Face. It shows off her gentle nature and intelligence. Same with Jacqueline.*

I look this good on a bad hair day.
The head tilt, the smile - perfect. Just perfect.

Sometimes, though, it takes a little work. Maybe you try the smile but you're concentrating too hard so it doesn't come out right. At all.

LOVE ME? PLEASE?
We all know you want a forever home SO badly but sometimes you can want things too badly. Don't worry though. You'll get it right.

Snuggle me?
See? Perfect.

On the 'avoid looking crazed note', you might want to practice a 'running adopt me face'.

Ermaghawd where's the ball? Where's the ball? I need the ball!
Yes, Jitterbug. We are talking to you.

Poor beloved, wonderful, happy, fully-body wagging, staff-fave Jitterbug has really struggled with Adopt Me Face. She just gets so happy....

Happy happy happy happy happy!

That really strange things happen.

You might also want to avoid looking too laid back as we don't want people thinking...

I just....all of you....wunnerful...who has Doritos?
that this is Colorado and we're feeding you special doggy brownies that are only legal there.

And we know that sometimes a quirky Adopt Me Face is the best Adopt Me Face.

What'th quirky?

Not everyone grew up with a doggy orthodontist so as a result....

I think it gives me charm.
Not all of our tongues stay in our mouths all the time.

I taste....air.
In reality we could all use a little work on our Adopt Me Face. Only as people we call it our 'Hire Me' Face. Or our 'Like Me' face. Who could be a better role model for us humans than the pooches that have worked so hard at perfecting it? The dogs who always try and put their best face forward, poor orthodontics, silly running antics and trying-too-hard aside?

*Not to be mistaken with the amazing volunteer Jacqueline MacMillan, AKA 'Jackie Mac', whose amazing photos grace so many of these blogs.

7 Cats That Just Want it to be Friday Already

Yes, kitties.  We know it's been a tough week.  Maybe it's the stress of a hectic work week or maybe it's just the gloomy weather, but it seems that we could all use a day of relaxation.  We know you cats here at HSSV have been very busy chasing that mousie toy, keeping yourself well-groomed and presentable, and as always, being incredibly gracious and welcoming to the hosts of visitors that walk through your door.  But don't fret, you fabulous felines -- we've got some good news for all of us: Tomorrow is Friday!

What's a Friday?  I'm going back to sleep.

Wake up, Lucci!  It's the end of the week!  Time to party!

No?  Still sleepy?  Alright, well, we'll wake you when it's Monday again.

Hey look!  Adorable kittens!  Surely these fuzzy little troublemakers are excited for the weekend...

ZZZZZZZZZZZ...

...ZZZZZZZZZZZ

Hm.  Maybe not.

Umm...hello?

Oh, here's a kitty that's always ready to party -- Foxy Cleopatra!

It's exhausting being this cute.

Wow.
Even the most outgoing, talkative and energetic cat here has the end-of-the-week blues.
Cheer up, Foxy!  It's almost Friday!

Hey, more kittens!

No.

Nevermind.

Don't look at me.

And then there's Cleo.

Well, no surprise there.  Cleo is a big lazy butt.  She may be the heaviest cat here, but she can still squeeze onto her hammock (or your lap) with ease.

Well, it seems as if the cats here all too sleepy to celebrate the end of a long, gloomy week... but wait!  Are the eyes of those little kittens starting to open?

Huh?  Did someone say party...?

Oh, and look!  Furball's waking up!  Hey, Furball, guess what?  It's almost Friday!

Yaaawn!  Really?!  Hooraaaay!
Can you feel the excitement building?  We certainly can!  And when you come in to celebrate the end of your long week with some kitty cuddles, all of these available cats and their friends will be here ready to meet you!

We are open for adoptions every single day!  Just walk through our doors and we'll introduce you to your new best friend.  We're open Monday-Friday 12pm-7pm, and Saturday-Sunday 10am-7pm.

Happy weekend!

I'm trying to get my beauty sleep here, camera lady!

Sorry, Miu Miu.

Five HSSV Dogs That Now Really, Really Hate Our Blogger.

Attention pooches of HSSV: As you know, it's almost Halloween and all of you guys are looking for forever homes. It's very important for us to show off how wonderful, friendly and personable you guys are. We want to show folks that all of you would be amazing family dogs. We had this great idea....

Halloween costumes!
Please no. I'm going to poop in  your shoe anyway, but I will poop twice for this.
Nestle, why are you giving us that look? Stop giving us that look. This is going to be fun. Sure, it's annoying to get dressed up but sometimes that's just part of life. It happens to humans all the time. And it's not like we're asking you to wear bridesmaids dresses. Really, this is going to be fun.

Sure guys, I'm down. What's a bridesmaid?
Koky, there's baseball stuff going on. Lots of baseball stuff. People here love baseball. So we have this great idea - you're going to be a baseball player. How adorable is that?

You lied. This is not fun. You said fun. Not fun.
Canelo, I know you can be a better sport than Koky. You're such a fun little guy. You know what you are? You're a prince. You're a prince but people don't realize that because you're a tan chihuahua mix so they ignore you. Which is a shame because you're like the coolest dog ever. So you're going to be the frog prince. Brilliant right?

Ermaghawd! Something new, let's do it! Now! Yesterday!
See? You just look darling. Absolutely darling. Don't give us that look. Now everyone knows you're a prince and they'll come in and adopt you.

No, I changed my mind. Let's not do it. Let's undo it. Now.
Look, Jitterbug. We need you here. You're famous for that whole body-wag, the constant smile, the fantastic attitude. You need to show the other pooches how it's done. And because you're such a happy, busy gal, we're making you....

What do I get to be? Huh? Are there cookies? Can we throw the ball?
A bee! Get it? A busy bee! Ha!

I'm trying to smile but why is this happening to me? Wings? Really?
Okay Zachary, did you see how cute Jitterbug looked when she smiled? See how she was such a good sport? Let's keep that going. No, stop making that face. You know how you're missing half your tail? And you just have that little nub you waggle? You know what you need?

I'd like to lead with 'no'. But I feel I should go through with this.
A great big dragon tail! Get it? A dragon tail! How cute are you?

Polka dots? This needs to not be happening.
Oh stop, just stop. Bodi, can you come here for a second? You're such a playful, silly little guy. We need your help with this. You know how you want someone to bring you home? Well, you do know what everyone brings home for Halloween?

What does everyone bring home? Because they should bring me home!
PUMPKINS! Get it? So we made you a pumpkin! Isn't that fantastic? You're a pumpkin! Look happy!

This is not a happy pumpkin.
Wow. Tough crowd. Lucy, we have this idea....

Me and my dignity are sleeping. Very hard. Go away. Now.
Okay. Fine. Never mind. But it's worth noting that someone was a great sport who LOVED their costume....

Stupid dogs. I look GOOD.
All of the pooches who were used in this were actually great sports about everything and got a lot of cookies, huggin' and lovin' for participating. The costume photos were actually taken by our fantastic adoption counselors who deserve lots and lots of cookies, just not the same kind. You know what makes our counselors really happy? Sending these guys home with you. So if any of the pooches here catch your eye, give the counselors a jingle at 408.262.2133 ext. 150 and they can give you all the details.

Killian, our stunningly handsome feline model, is also available for adoption at our Petco Sunnyvale Neighborhood Adoption Center. Site supervisor Allison took his pic. She deserves cookies, too. People cookies.

Cute Kittens with Pumpkins? Yes, Please!

It's beginning to look a lot like... Autumn!  The leaves are falling, there's (finally) a breeze in the air, and the Halloween costumes are already on clearance at Target.  Yes, it's October.  But what you HAVEN'T heard is the silence of the kittens.  They're still out there, meowing and in need of homes.  Kitten season has yet to draw to a close and in celebration of the babies that are still awaiting their forever families, we thought we'd introduce them to you in proper fall fashion -- amongst pumpkins.  Because who can resist cute kittens playing with pumpkins?  Certainly not us.

While we can't guarantee any of these fur babies will don a Halloween costume with you this year (at least not willingly), we CAN guarantee that they will make your life way cuter.

Check out all of our available animals on our website -- we've got cats and kittens at all four of our locations!

Update: Cici has been adopted!  Here's to many more days of nibbling pumpkin stems in your new home, little girl!
